Even when working within a budget you don’t have to compromise beauty and taste when selecting a cake for your Triad wedding. One of the most important things to remember when selecting your wedding cake is to choose a style and flavor that is reflective of you as a couple. Here, we offer tips from local-area wedding cake bakers in and around Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, NC on how to select the perfect cake for your Triad wedding.
If you’re working in a smaller budget, consider:
1. Serve the baker’s standard cake flavor with butter cream filling and icing. Choose a simple border design to keep your cost down.
2. If serving over 100 guests, have a small decorated cake for the cake table with the rest of the servings as an undecorated sheet cake. The guests will never know it didn’t come from the tiered cake. To make the cake look grand when serving fewer guests, use fake tiers that are decorated to give the cake more height.
3. For decoration, add a single handmade sugar flower or a few fresh flowers to coordinate with your wedding colors. Simple is elegant.
If your budget allows additions to the cake, consider:
1. Add special cake flavors such as chocolate, rum, red velvet or even pink lemonade (a popular choice from
Dewey’s Bakery in Winston-Salem, NC). Add special fillings like fruits or ganache.
2. Keep the simple butter cream filling and icing but add more embellishments to the cake such as fresh flowers, fondant swags, chocolate swirls, sugar flowers, ribbons, appliques, 3-D decorations and jewels. These could be added just as the cake topper or to each tier. Remember, the more ornate the cake, the higher the cost.
3. Mix it up — do different flavors and different decorations on each tier.
With so many options you are sure to find a cake to fit within your budget and style.
